Golf Update - Friday 4 June -
We have had some fantastic weather for golf and this has been reflected in the numbers; I hope you are enjoying these great conditions and getting in some great golf.

Thank you again for your support and patience throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. As you know we have kept the course open for the leisure and well-being of our members; and your compliance of the social distancing guidelines and regulations as outlined by the Australian Government and Golf NSW is essential to continue; this includes signing into the Clubhouse upon entry and anyone who refuses to comply will be refused entry.

We have had some schedule changes that are not reflected in the fixtures book; we request that all members regularly check the online booking system to ensure you are aware of these changes.

For the male golfers this Saturday is the Monthly Medal; and the Friday competition will now be an individual Men's and Ladies comp and will include a Lady Vets 9 Hole comp as well. Some of the other changes may include the Blackbutt Trophy, Tallowood Cup, Matchplay and Club Champs. We will keep you up to date as other changes come to hand.

Its great to see the competitions starting up again, we are certainly moving in the right direction. Happy golfing.

Golf Update - Friday 22 May -
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your patronage, patience and conduct throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has been challenging times with the ever changing social distancing regulations of which we have endeavoured to keep you informed and up to date of all the changes as they come to hand via regular email updates. For those who do not receive these updates you may contact the Club to update your email address plus we have a hard copy available outside the Pro shop; in the not to distant future these will also be available on the website under the golf section.

As previously advised prizes will be allocated to your membership card and will be valid for 12 months from the time you print them from the member kiosk. Vouchers are available in $5 and $10 denominations and there is no limit to how many you can print at one time; as long as the vouchers are available. In addition the Clubhouse will now be open from 8 am to 1 pm for up to 10 people at a time so you may access the member kiosk to print off your vouchers as required. If you require assistance please see Club staff and they will be able to assist you with your vouchers.

Click here to download an easy guide on how to redeem vouchers.

Once printed you can redeem your town vouchers at the following local businesses:
• Laurieton United Services Club
• Camden Haven Tyre and Brake
• Laurieton Family Jewellers
• Top End Fruit & Veg
• Laurieton Hardware
• T-Bones Butchery
• Wiggly Tail Butchery
• M & H Mechanical
When you access your vouchers you will be asked for a pin number; this number is defaulted to your membership number. It is recommended that you change your pin number following your initial transaction.

Future vouchers may be business specific to coincide with sponsors as well as Club vouchers.

Conditions of play will continue to be in line with the recommendations of Golf NSW whilst the Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing regulations are in place; and competitions will continue to be run by the Club until all restrictions have been lifted.

From Monday 1 June competitions will revert back to normal with the exception of some monthly medals so ensure you stay up to date as there may be slight variations to the fixture book. This also means that Monday and Wednesday competitions will no longer be Medley events.

We are pleased to advise that all practice facilities will be open from Saturday 23 May which includes the driving range. The practice putting area is open to four people at a time with a 5 minute time allowance.

We have also commenced the transfer from Slice to MPower golf software and we will keep you posted of any changes as they arise.

Men's golf have developed some training videos which are a great tool to practice while the pandemic restrictions are in place. Some of these videos have been shared on Facebook and will also be available on the website soon.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding during these difficult times; we have done our best to keep the course open and everyone golfing throughout this pandemic. Happy golfing.

Golf Update - Thursday 14 May -
I hope that you have all been enjoying some great golf with the glorious weather conditions we have been experiencing. I have received some very positive feedback on the conditions of the course and I believe some of the recent results reflect this.

Golf during Covid-19.
At 7.30 pm yesterday evening GolfNSW sent through an update to advise golf clubs that golf groups of up to four will be allowed, effective Friday 15 May.

Our Director of Golf, Luke Garel is updating the booking sheets to allow for the groups of four and is doing his best to accommodate players. Please ensure you check your bookings and if you wish to play in a group of four you may alter your tee time to what works best for your group.

Practice facilities including the practice nets, chipping green and putting green are available for use; however the driving range will remain closed. Golf carts may also be allocated to two people to transport two sets of golf clubs; but there is strictly a limit of one person riding inside the cart at any time.

All other social distancing guidelines will continue until further notice and must be adhered to. Let's maintain the culture that keeps golf courses open.

We will also be including Tuesday in our golf competition days, commencing Tuesday 19 May. Be sure to check your cards for a few variations to competitions; these may include events such as par events as opposed to stableford.

Competition results.
During the pandemic golf results have been included on the clubs websites and we have also commenced displaying a hard copy outside the Pro Shop.

As we are unsure when the restrictions will be lifted, and at the request of members, the collection of golf balls prizes will be available from the Pro shop when making payment. Thank you to Luke and his team for presenting the results in a prompt manner.

Software update.
The Board has approved the installation of the MPower software to occur while in shutdown; subject to a few more changes. The latest proposal is with the Board and awaiting confirmation to proceed which I anticipate should come in the not too distant future.

Our Director of Golf, Luke Garel and Management will be the administrators of the system. However part of the training process will include training sub committees to assist with updating competition types, reporting, leader board options, members portals, kiosk functionality etc.

Training will commence after the data conversion to the new platform and will be conducted remotely as previously demonstrated via the webinar late last year.

Course Update.
Over the past few weeks the Maintenance team have been taking annual leave for some much needed rest. As we approach winter the growth is finally starting to slow down providing the opportunity to catch up on tasks that were postponed during summer due to higher priorities.

A big thank you to Brendan Hansard and the the team for all their effort in keeping the greens looking so great through some very difficult conditions - certainly a job well done.

The rebuilding of the bunkers around the 18th green has commenced; the large bunker at the back is now complete and this week the small bunker at the right hand side will be commenced. The old sand will be removed, new drainage installed then new bunker sand imported. The old bunker sand has been placed in-front of the 18th dam to increase the existing mounding to reduce balls going into the dam. The cart path around Howie’s Gazebo will be completed in the coming weeks. This will get us a step closer to finishing off all works around the 18th according to our master plan.

Our young apprentice Daniel has been working on removing some of the small patches of couch on greens 3,12 and 16. These areas have been sprayed with roundup and the soil will be excavated to a depth of 250mm to 300mm and replaced with new amended soil followed with some turf from the nursery. We have also started plugging some bare patches on 6,13 and 4.

The irrigation repair on the 6th fairway is proving difficult with several pipes of various sizes within close proximity all causing some unwanted challenges;  however we hope to have this fixed by the end of the week. We have had Jackson Miller and Wendell Scott helping out a couple of days a week and their help has been much appreciated and noticed on the golf course.

As the maintenance staff have reduced hours they are doing their best to continue the normal maintenance practices while continuing with projects according to our master plan.

Thank you and happy golfing

Golf & Bowls - Monday 13 April -
As indicated in the email communication to members last week, the governing body of the Club, in accordance with current Covid-19 health advice for NSW, has decided to re-open the golf course and bowling greens at Kew Country Club from Wednesday.

The Board has implemented a number of measures to keep our course available for members and to provide an environment where members and staff can feel safe. At present not many other facets of life or sport enjoy this privilege.

The re-opening will be to primarily provide an exercise facility for our members’ use, and will be in accordance with the following strict operational procedures:

GOLF
1. The Golf Course will be open 7 days per week for member's only social golf.
2. The Club is not encouraging members over 70 to play golf, and it is our recommendation that members over 70 adhere to Government recommendations to self-isolate for their health and safety.
3. On Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Mondays our Director of Golf, Luke Garel will be conducting a single Medley Stableford event for members only, provided we have the required minimum number of players to conduct the event. All these events will be run by the Club during the course of these pandemic conditions.
4. On the days on which the Single Medley events are held, the Pro shop will be open and the Board insists that the following procedures are adhered to:

(a) Time your arrival at the golf course with your allocated tee time on the booking sheet, so as to comply with the social distancing requirements and to avoid any gatherings of more than two people. Booking sheets for all events will be available online.
(b) Sanitise your hands before entry to the Pro shop – a sanitiser will be provided outside the Pro shop.
(c) Payment for golf and event fees are to be tap ‘n’ go, with your membership number verbally conveyed to the starter.
(d) Remove your own scorecard from the printer and proceed directly to the tee. You are the only person allowed to touch and fill in your scorecard.
(e) Maximum of 2 persons per group.
(f) Only members’ carts will be allowed on the course (no hire carts will be available) with a maximum of 1 person per cart (no exceptions).
(g) Preferred lies will be available in all bunkers (as bunker rakes have been removed from the course) and pins are to remain in the hole at all times and not touched. Click here to view all Golf NSW Guidelines.
(h) No bubblers or fountains will be operating – so bring your own water.
(i) Your personally completed and signed scorecard should be placed in the box provided outside the Pro shop at the completion of your round. Note there is no requirement for a marker’s signature, however scores should be verbally crossed checked before submission.
(j) The Clubhouse and amenities are closed. Please depart the Club premises as soon as your round is completed.
(k)  The Pro shop will enter your completed scorecard to Golflink using sanitised gloves, and all winners and prizes will be posted online, with vouchers and balls credited directly to members cards (the Club will be trialling this new procedure during the pandemic).
(l) Club staff will be acting as Course Marshalls everyday to ensure that the social distancing rules and the above procedures are followed. Any member found breaching any of these rules will be subject to disciplinary action and will be directed to leave the course and premises immediately.

5. Social golf will be available to all members 7 days per week from 9am to 4pm. Social players are required to book using the online booking sheet or phone the Pro shop to arrange a suitable time. On the days on which the Pro shop is not open, Club staff will be available outside the Pro shop to collect green fees using tap ‘n’ go. Cards can be collected from there as well.
6. The Pro shop will be closed on Tuesdays and Fridays. On the other days it will be open in the mornings only, closing on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10.30am and Noon on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

BOWLS
1. Bowls is open to members only for a roll-up. Gatherings of more than 2 is prohibited and this will be enforced by our marshalls. Bowlers are required to maintain a gap of one rink if there are more than 2 groups on a green.
2. The Club is not encouraging members over 70 to bowl, and it is recommended that members over 70 adhere to Government recommendations to self-isolate for their health and safety.

Failure to comply with these regulations will have consequences. Social distancing is required at all times. Social gathering is prohibited. These are now laws. Playing in groups of greater than two people or gathering for a chat after play could see players fined $1,000 each by police, and the Club fined as a venue, or worse still be ordered to close the course and greens.

The Board have deemed it necessary to provide this exhaustive procedure to ensure the health and safety of our members and staff; and also to allow the Kew Country Club to remain open for your important exercise. Thank you all for your understanding in these trying conditions.

Golf & Bowls - Thursday 9 April -
It certainly is a challenging time at the moment; first and foremost your health and those of our staff is at the top of our minds.

We have kept the course open for the leisure and well-being of our members; and your compliance of the rules has permitted us to continue to keep the course open within the guidance and regulations as outlined by the Australian Government and Golf NSW.

As you would be aware our Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, has given clear direction that we all need to isolate and remain at home over the Easter period. The advice is clear: you must stay home this Easter to help slow the spread of Covid-19

On this basis the Club's governing body has decided to close the golf and bowls facilities over the Easter period. We understand this is short notice; however, as noted earlier the scene is constantly and rapidly changing.

We will re-open the bowling greens for roll ups on Wednesday 15 April as well as the the golf course; within the guidelines of the public health advice.

The club has been researching how other golf clubs are currently running competitions to determine whether we can implement similar strategies in a safe manner that complies with the Covid-19 public health order. If it is determined that we can achieve this we will communicate the new regulations in due course with a view to conducting medley and stableford events as well as social golf on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; on all other days only social golf will be played between 9am and 4pm..

Whilst the short notice is not desirable, we thank you for your understanding and your patience as we continue to work through this very fluid period of change.

Golf & Covid-19 - Friday 3 April -
We are certainly living in very uncertain times – golf is on, golf is off, golf is on again.

In view of the new NSW Government advice regarding the playing of golf, the Club has decided that Kew Country Club will be open to MEMBERS ONLY, commencing on Sunday 4 April 2020.

Scores may be sent off to GolfLink, however there are no competitions.

As mentioned in a previous emails to members, the conditions of play have been altered to be in-line with the recommendations from Golf NSW. As of Sunday, we have opened the Club to Members only,  because we believe our members will adhere to these guidelines, including social distancing as outlined in the summary below – social distancing is not optional – they are mandatory – no exceptions.

Click here to download a summary of these conditions.

In summary therefore:-
1. The Golf course will be open to members only.

12. Flags will not be used in the greens.
13. Any member who breaches any of the social distancing and Government/Golf NSW rules will be subject to disciplinary action and will be directed to leave the Course and premises.

Golf Course Open - Wednesday 1 April -
We are pleased to advise that after reconsideration, the Office of Sport – NSW Government has confirmed that golf is considered an activity that can continue to be played in line with Public Health Orders relating to public gathering limits, social distancing, and the elderly.

The statement from the Office of Sport - NSW Government maybe viewed here.

As a result social golf will resume at Kew Country Club today however the Clubhouse will remain closed. We are looking into the possibility of providing food and beverage sales from the gazebo on the 10th Hole and will provide further details on this soon.

We understand that this may not be for everyone; however maintaining the public’s physical and mental well-being is now as important as ever. Where possible, it is important to continue to exercise, so long as social distancing is practised and rules around public gatherings of no more than two people are followed.

The conditions of play have been altered to be in-line with the recommendations from Golf NSW. It is important that we all adhere to these guidelines including social distancing as outlined in the summary below. It is fantastic news that we have been granted the opportunity to reopen the golf course and it would be a shame if this were to be reconsidered due to individuals not adhering to guidelines.

Click here to download a summary of these conditions.

Social play will resume today until Friday with the view to reintroduce competitions as of Saturday.

You will need to re-book your tee times as all current bookings will be cleared from the slice system to allow for the restriction of two people at the tee off at any one time.

For those of you who have carts stored at Kew Country Club the chargers have been turned off.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this difficult time; but the good news is that we can get back out there. I look forward to seeing some great scores.
