Men's Bowl's News - 28 February 
Not a lot to report this week we were only able to play Wednesday social because of the wet weather. Winners on Wednesday were John Hilton, Stewart Rogan and Wayne Thrussell, in the runner up spot John Ockers, Daryle Barr and Mick the bickie eater Ashford.

Don’t forget to get your team in for the major pairs; the closing date is the 8th of March.

​The major pairs entry sheet is on the board closing date Saturday the 6th of March first game to be played by Sunday the 14th of March.
Wednesday social and scooting out the door with the loot were Pat O’Connor, Ian Hodgkinson and Wayne Thrussell, the runner up spot was filled by Stuart Wellard and Steve McGregor. Vouchers went to Keven West, Bill Bailey, Paul Sullivan, June Shaw and Warren Bates.

Mens Bowl's News - 14 February 
Sunday afternoon the first semi-final of the club fours was played and the team of Gary Cheers, Paul Cini, Gary the machine Hamilton and Peter Griffith was way too good for Frank Raczka, Brian Charters, Mick Stuttard and Dean Gemmell. Well done and the best of luck in the final.
Sunday morning, we had a visit from Comboyne and the Kew boys performed very well.
Saturday cashpot was a washout.
Wednesday social and winning the afternoon were Jock Wyper, Rod Sutton and Rob Edwards, in the runner up spot were Bill Bailey, George Wise and Mick the bickie eater Ashford. Voucher winners were John Smith, Tony Austin, Jeff Wylie and Jock Wyper.

Men's Bowls News - 7 February 
Saturday afternoon three teams from Kew played in the Presidents shield against North Haven with the North Haven boys proving too good, our twos had a win but the fives and Sevens were soundly beaten. Well done North Haven till we meet again next year.

In the club fours Ian Poole, Dave Napper, Mark Hammond and Charles Doyle def Howard Burrows, John Gemmell, Barrie Isaac and Mick the bickie eater Ashford, Frank Raczka, Brian Charters, Mick Stuttard and Dean Gemmell def Jeff Wylie, Stewart Rogan, Jeff Dixon and Wayne Thrussell and Gary Cheers, Paul Cini, Gary Hamilton and Peter Griffith def Adrian Hilton, Daryle Barr, Bindi Notara and Ingo Model.

Monday monthly pairs and having a field day with the cash was David Graham and Fred Payne who not only won the day but picked up the jackpot of $500. Well done. In 2nd place Gary Ruprecht and Mal Isaac, 3rd Nola and Roger Hall and in 4th spot team Anderson.

The men’s Christmas party and presentation day will be held on Saturday the 12th of December starting at 9am with a game of bowls then lunch with the presentations to follow all bowlers are requested to wear a loud shirt, there will be a prize for the loudest shirt.

Men's Bowls News - 6 December
 The classic triples was again a great success with 34 teams taking part a big thank you to our sponsor’s for making it possible to have these tournaments, also thank you to our greenkeepers, Wendell and his staff behind the bar and Keven and his crew in the kitchen for our lunches, Wendy and Doreen for all their work, the players who travel from near and far and last but not least Barrie and the committee for all the work that goes into making the weekend happen.

Winning is what we all try to do and Bill O’Donnell, Gary Hamilton and Mick Stuttard did just that, in second spot another Kew team Ian Poole, Dave Napper and Peter Laing, third spot went to Mal Isaac, Les Allport and Graham Conen, 4th Ingo Model, Gary Douglas and Barrie Isaac and 5th Laura Cooper, Sandra Gill and Gwen Saunders. Congratulations to all winners and we hope to see you all back next year.  

Viv Gunter and Charles Doyle def Steve McGregor and Mick Stuttard in the semi-final of the major minor pairs played on Wednesday and will now play Mick White and Brian Charters in the final to be played at 12.00 on Thursday the 26th of November.

Men's Bowls News - 29 November
The final of the major minor pairs was played on Thursday afternoon and what a thriller it turned out to be the game was played in trying conditions with the wind gusting and changing direction all arvo. Mick White and Frosty went into battle against Viv Gunter and Charles Doyle and for the first 15 ends it looked like Mick and Frosty would win the match easy but Viv and Charles had other ideas and came within 2 shots going into the last end and were unlucky to go down by 3 it was a great game played in the right spirit and enjoyed by the small crowd who came to watch.

There were two semi-finals played on Sunday morning in the first game Jenny Wellard and Terry Miles def Ida Bruno and Greg Darcy and Maree and Paul Cini def Wendy and Barrie Isaac.

Friday jackpot triples and three very happy lads head home with the cash, 18 was the number needed and out came 18 and the smiles on the faces of Ian Poole, Dave Napper and Phil Collins said we will have a drink for Christmas. Ian Hilton is the minor singles champion for 2020, after a tense battle with the never give up Peter Laing the game was played in gusty conditions and it was anyone’s game right up to the end with the final score being 31/27. The semi-finals of the club triples were played on Saturday Dean Gemmell, Trevor Robb and Terry Miles played that little bit better to def Gary Ruprecht, Chicka Thompson and Barrie Isaac to be the first team into the final, then in the second game Bill O’Donnell, Gary Hamilton and Mick Stuttard ran out winners against John Brown, Budgie Brecard and Charles Doyle. The final is set down to be played on Sunday afternoon; the time is yet to be set.

Ray Pantlin is doing well after his procedure in Sydney all his friends at the club wish him a speedy recovery and back to bowls soon.

Men’s Bowls News - 23 August
The final of the major singles was played on Saturday in very difficult conditions and it is a credit to both Mick and Dean who handled the gusty wind and fast green with ease the score changed several times during the match but it was Mick Stuttard who prevailed and won an exciting game against Dean Gemmell with the final score being 31/25. Congratulations to both Mick and Dean on a great game played in the right spirit.

The AGM was held on Saturday morning with a good number of members in attendance Barrie Isaac will lead the club again for the 20-21 season assisted by Chicka Thompson as VP Dave Napper secretary, Tony Austin Treasurer and John Gemmell as bowl organiser along with Peter Laing, Frank Raczka, Gary Hamilton and John Jarvis the committee.

Sunday morning saw the second semi-final of the major pairs with John and Dean Gemmell playing Rod Sutton and Wayne Thrussell and in a hard fought match John and Dean made it to the final against Frosty and Phil to be played Saturday starting at 12pm.

The first game of the major singles was played on Sunday morning with Steve Anderson up against Bill Bailey and it looked like a one way street with Steve shooting away to a big lead but Bill had other ideas and fought back to be four behind then Steve got his second wind and came home to win 31/24. Congratulations guys it was a great game to start major singles.

The Kew Men’s AGM will be held on Saturday the 22nd of August starting at 10am with the cashpot triples to follow. All positions are open and there are nomination forms on the board.

Wednesday social was played in very windy conditions with a real nip to it the boys were glad to get inside out of the cold. The winners for the afternoon were Denis Squires, Rick Burgess from Sydney and Mark Hammond, picking up the runner up prize was Alfie Salter, John Gemmell and Peter Laing. It was good to welcome back some familiar faces at the Monday Monthly pairs tournament hopefully this is only the start of continuous bowls at the club. We had some joy at home in the pennants the 2s won 10/0 and the 5s won 10/0 the 6s had a draw and 7s went down still a better result than last week, we have a spell this week from pennants due to zone commitments.

The celebrations carried on for some time after their win in the club fours enough so that one of the players no names fell out of bed, well done blisters it could only happen to you.

We have new champions in the club fours Gary Cheers, Paul Cini, Gary the machine Hamilton and Peter Griffith got away from Gary Ruprecht, Budgie Brecard, Trevor Robb and Dean Gemmell in what was an entertaining match there was nothing in the first 10 ends with the score pretty even then a couple of multiples scores saw Peter’s team kick away and was never headed. Congratulations to the Peter’s team commiserations to Dean's team.

Saturday wasn’t a very good start to the pennant season with all grades going down but next Saturday will be different with the twos and fives at home and the 6s and 7s away let’s put our head down and make the club proud. Sunday morning saw the first of two semi-finals played and what an entertaining match it was with the score changing right up until end 21 and with the scores locked at 16 all an extra end needed to be played and it was a great bowl by Gary the machine Hamilton that gave his side a 3 shot margin Barrie Isaac tried his best but could not get the shot and for the first time in four years missed the final. Congratulations to Gary Cheers, Paul Cini, Gary Hamilton and Peter Griffith on a fine win. Commiserations to Howard Burrows, John Gemmell, Mick Ashford and Barrie Isaac.

Saturday saw an inhouse pennant trial at the club and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all with some nibbles and a short talk by Mr T Miles after the bowls. The winners for the afternoon were Jeff Wylie, George Wise, Wayne Thrussell and Wicky Ray Allan, in the runner up spot was Ian Paris Hilton, Kerry Deas, Bob Sims and Dave Jones. The final of the mixed pairs was played on Saturday morning Kim and Chicka Thompson did battle with Leonie Murphy and Dean Gemmell, Dean and Leonie got away to a good start but Kim and Chicka kept plugging away and got the nod on the last end winning 22/20. Congratulations to both teams on making the final.

What a great night it was the band made up of men’s bowlers was fantastic, Santa made an appearance, the food was excellent and everyone had a great night thanks to Barrie and his hard-working committee. Well to all who made it a special night. Dick Davies who never wins anything got lucky and won a bag of chips good on you Dick it’s been a while since you won any bl---y anything.

The final of the major minor pairs was played on Saturday afternoon in very blustery conditions and the pair that handled the conditions the best was Chicka Thompson and Mark Hammond who overcame their opponents Stewart Rogan and Dean Gemmell in a fine display of how to play in windy conditions. Congratulations to both teams on making the final.

The final pairing for the club singles was decided on Wednesday afternoon Charles Doyle will do battle against Dean Gemmell after a classy win against Brian Charters. Charles was too good on the day and we wish both players all the best in the final.

Sunday morning saw a very good game in a semi-final of the major triples Bill O’Donnell, Gary the machine Hamilton and Mick Stuttard were on their game and were a bit too good for Terry Duff, Charles Doyle and Barrie Isaac.

The final of the major pairs was played on Wednesday afternoon in just about perfect conditions in a game that went down to the last end it was Peter Griffith and Mick Stuttard who played that little bit better to def Brian Charters and Phil Collins by 3 shots. Congratulations Pete and Mick hopefully we will meet again next year in the final.

Round 7 of pennants wasn’t the best for Kew with the twos the only winner the 4s were unlucky to lose by 4 shots, the sixes and sevens also went down pennant teams for this week are on the board please check where you are playing and let the selectors know if you are unavailable.

Pennant results the two’s won 9/1, the fours went down 8/2, the sixes won 9/1 and the sevens won 9/1 a very good weekend for the club.

Wednesday social and galloping out the door was Ray Elliott, Ian Poole and Dean Gemmell, the runner up loot was taken home by Steve Hall, Warren Bates and Bob Sims. Vouchers went to Tony Austin, Terry Stringer, Dave Napper and Barrie Isaac.

The grass green is progressing well with the shavings being sewn on Tuesday 29 January. Many thanks to the lads who helped and to those who will help with ongoing work needed to get the green into playing condition. Thanks also to Brendon and his staff for all the hard work they have put into the green so far.


The club fours continued on Wednesday with a very close game Howard Burrows, John Gemmell, Mick Ashford and Barrie Isaac played Ian Hilton, Bindi Notara, Warren Barnes and Gerry Ludford and it was a struggle for the defending champs who only made it home with the very last bowl of the match well done lads the game was a credit to you all.

Deans team in front then Barrie’s team; sadly there could only be one winner with 1 shot separating both sides after 21 ends congratulations go to Gary Ruprecht, Budgie Brecard, Trevor Robb and Dean Gemmell who defeated the defending champs Howard Burrows, John Gemmell, Mick Ashford and Barrie Isaac.

The teams have been selected to go to Comboyne on Sunday there is a new starting time of 10am leaving the club at 8.30am. The teams Tony Austin, Stewart Rogan, Warren Barnes and Gerry Ludford. Steve Hall, Frank Raczka, Paul Cini and Peter Laing. Daryle Barr, Gary Cheers, Chicka Thompson and Rocky Davis with Terry Stringer as the reserve

The teams for the Presidents Challenge have not been finalized so please check the board before Friday to see who will and won’t be playing. Start time will be 1pm.
